cats and crafts.

I could probably title every one of my posts this way, but today I've got a bunch of photos of both!

To start:
I crocheted a baby blanket based on the "Sunny Spread" pattern from the Jan/Feb 08 issue of Crochet Today! magazine. (Pattern available for free at Ravelry.) I've made a similar baby blanket version before, but this time I kept all the squares facing up.

What I love about this pattern is that the squares are small, semi-fancy, and portable (you're not dragging the entire blanket around with you if you crochet on the go); what I hate about this pattern is how many ends there are to weave in at the end because not only do you have two ends per square, you also have the ends of the threads you used to sew the squares together (it's a lot).

However, I persevered and wove in all my ends, and when I went to go take a photo of the finished blanket, Sophie had already claimed a spot on it. It's a good thing SV and D have a cat and are well-versed in "everything I own has cat hair on it".

And when I pointed out that the blanket wasn't hers, she had a fantastic glare:

this blaket is green and it's mine.

In addition to the blanket, I made a cutout card (also green), using the Android Logo* (and some touches of my own), since SV is such a fan:

baby android.

The eyes and baby bottle are cut out and glued to the inside of the card; the body/head/arms are cut out of the front. I made it in stages throughout the day (printed/traced on the card earlier), cut out when I got home, then rushed over to the shower, so I had to take a picture of it after SV and D had opened up all their presents. Hence the background being my knees.

Also of note, I got a new camera today! The above photo (android card) was taken with my shiny new Canon Powershot G11.

I did some other test shots today (I really don't know how to use this camera yet) using the auto features, including this one of Sophie:

test shots - sophie.

She's such a good sport when it comes to me shoving a camera in her face. (+1 at flickr.)
