Like last year, we also had some homemade lemon drops (and finally finished off the bottle of Grey Goose I bought last year for Christmas Eve 2009), which made decorating cookies that much more fun.

Remember this post where I posted the little Darth Vader helmets that were part of my in-progress Christmas cards? Well, I finally got around to sending my cards, so here they are!

This has been a bit of a penguin year -- the one thing that I told Lynn (trip planner extraordinaire) was that I wanted to see in New Zealand was penguins! And so we did. But they come in to nest at night so I don't have any photos of them. I do, however, have some photos from the Oamaru colony where we watched them come in to nest for the night, but I've been bad and haven't uploaded them yet. Maybe before the end of the year. Oh Mercer, how I love you when it rains. It was pouring when I left the house this morning, and now, of course, as I'm posting this it's currently sunny and clear skies outside. Today's going to be interesting.

beware the dark side.

I made holiday cards this weekend (pictures forthcoming, after I send a couple in the mail), but the black paper cutouts that I was using reminded me a lot of Darth Vader's helmet. A lot of helmets.
