happy valentimes!*

I made Valentines this year. Sorta. I had someone print a postcard of a photo I took, and I *sent* them as Valentines this year.

They looked like this:
valentine 2011 - new zealand (heart) rocks!

It's a collection of rocks on a beach in NW New Zealand (the name of which I'm not sure I ever knew), where there were thousands of rocks with notes and pictures drawn on them (presumably with permanent marker). I think this set was created by a number of different people -- there were a lot of hearts that looked dissimilar enough that it looked like a collective collection.

As far as the postcards went, I decided to use Simplecard, which is a division of Modern Postcard. I had them do a one-sided print and left the back blank so that I could write a message on them.

They turned out pretty nicely (although it would appear that Simplecard assumes their customer is using their product for marketing, not crafting); the one thing I would have liked them to do (other than center the image vertically) is to have the option for matte print, or at least have the back of the postcard be matte so that it's easier to write on.

I had to write on them with a Sharpie(tm), as all my other (permanent) pen choices were smearing.

And I had these vellum envelopes leftover from like 3 years ago (and only first class letter stamps, no postcard ones(?)), so I used those. It was cute to have the image peeking through on the address side. Hopefully, the post office will think so too, and deliver these without a fuss.

All in all, a fun experiment; I think next time I decide to have postcards printed, I'm going to try moo, because it appears that they leave the backs unlaminated, for a whole $0.99 more (plus $5.00 shipping -- Simplecard was free!).
